Field note
When RSI stays elevated — reading trend momentum without panic
Traders often treat the upper RSI band as a sell siren. In trending markets the oscillator can remain elevated while price continues to print higher swings. In class we separate two questions: is momentum still thrusting, and has the swing structure actually broken?
A classroom habit
Before calling exhaustion, mark the last two swing highs on price and the corresponding RSI peaks. If RSI peaks are still rising with price, elevated readings may simply describe strong momentum — not an automatic fade.
What we practise next
Participants annotate three historical ASX examples where RSI held above 70 for several sessions. The homework is not to invent entries; it is to describe momentum in sentences that survive a second reading the following week.
